Tricot du coeur

Fiber arts from the heart.

Three more have arrived!

Over the past two days, we've received blankets from Sybilla D. in Texas, Sallie in Ohio, and Meryl from My Bit of Earth. Thank you ladies! (Meryl, please make sure you e-mail me your home address. I didn't see it on the box.)

Sybilla turned in the first one-color blanket (blue) with some really cool frine on it, and Sallie's is a nice yellow with black highlights.

Meryl, I'm going to keep the blanket in the package unless you tell me to open it. :)

Happy Easter!

Hi everyone,

I was up in Salisbury this weekend for Easter, but I ran home after work on Friday in case there were any special deliveries waiting on my doorstep. Fear not Marikka and Laura, your pacakges were waiting for me! (And sorry about Duke losing in the second round, Laura!) Laura went with a nice polka dot pattern, while Marikka did a nice mitered square blanket. Somehow, I'll get some pictures of everyone's blankets up on the blog.

Hopefully, Vivi's package will arrive at the beginning of this week. I can't wait to see it in person!

Here they come ...

I had two happy (but slightly damp) packages on my door when I came home this evening! (Fear not, the nasty storm only dampened the box, not the contents.)

Our first two packages have arrived at TdC HQ. Blankets from Dovie and Future Girl have made their way to North Carolina from California and Pennsylvania!

Both sent thank you cards for giving them the opportunity to donate to the cause. You're welcome ladies, and thank you for taking the time to make a blanket for such a worthy cause!

Now to go fill out my March Madness brackets in My Bit of Earth's group. (Sorry MBoE, I don't think Kansas is going to be rocking chalk in the final!)

my hogwarts blanket and other exciting developments

Hey there! I'm so excited that I've finished up my blanket that I just have to share. Behold, the Hogwarts agfhan:

Hogwarts afghan

While I used elements of the Mason Dixon mitered square blanket recipe, this was really a "make it up as you go along" sort of construction. In order to make it fit in the required measurements, I added a center strip in the brightest color, and then added a garter stitch border. I thought about adding some duplicate stitch to the center strip, but then I figured that since the children won't have a choice in the afghans they receive, it would be better to leave the blanket "neutral." If the recipient puts two and two together, then that's an extra bonus.

I learned so much about construction on this project and even if it isn't the most handsome blanket ever made, I'm so glad I did it. Not only does it feel good to give a little bit of yourself to someone, but I feel like I learned a lot and hopefully will become a better knitter because of it.

So enough about me! This piece of work will be winging its way to Tricot du coeur headquarters this week. In other news, Dovie has sent word that her blanket is on the way and that she'll be posting pictures soon, and Meryl at My Bit of Earth is doing some furious car crocheting in order to finish in time (though if you're a day or two late in mailing it off, I think we'll let you slip in. Just keep us updated so we know we've got more blankets coming!). Make sure you go check out her "Fruit Stripe" blanket!

We are certainly getting down to the wire here with less than two weeks to the shipping deadline! Happy crafting, everybody!
