Tricot du coeur

Fiber arts from the heart.

design-o-rama

Hey y'all! How's it going? Have you started putting together your designs, or even starting working on your blankets? I don't know about you guys, but mine will definitely be a Make It Up As I Go kind of design. I already knew that I wanted to incorporate mitered squares, and I knew I wanted to do a Hogwarts theme. Since my sister doesn't play with yarn, sticks or hooks (yet!), she wanted to help by buying some of the yarn. Yes, I'm one of those freaks that doesn't have much of a stash to pull from. I still like to buy yarn for particular projects, though I'm sure that's going to change one of these days!

Anyway, my sister bought the bulk of the yarn, which arrived last week, and I quickly got to work. Here's my first block:

I'm following the recipe from Mason Dixon Knitting, and it came out a lot bigger than I expected! So now I think I'm going to incorporate some smaller blocks with the bigger blocks, and we'll see how it goes! It'll probably be a week or so before I work on the blanket again, as I'm working on all my knitting in rotation.

Where are y'all at in your blanket making? Oh - and be sure to say hello to our newest participants this week, Gigi at Dovie and Marikka at Me, Yarn, and Crochet.

Oh hey - are any of you on Ravelry yet? I should be getting my invite any day now (I check to see where I am in line everyday because I know I'm so close!). If y'all are there, let's start up a group!

quilters now included!

Excellent news! I got word today from Donation Headquarters that quilts will also be accepted, therefore also included here at Tricot du coeur! If you're a quilter and would like to participate, please check out the "How to participate" link over on the right side of the page to find out the particulars. And don't forget to leave us a comment to let us know that you'll be joining us!

c'est parti!

We're off to a good start, and I just want to thank those of you that have already stepped up to the plate. We've got ten participants so far, but I hope that's just the beginning!

First, I want to let you all know that we've added a new prize: Anne Hanson of knitspot has donated two of her PDF patterns, which will be the winner's choice! If you haven't already visited her site, make sure you do, and be sure to check out her patterns, because they are phenomenial!

Now, what I'd love to do is find a spinner who would be willing to donate yarn to go with these patterns, so then we could create two separate prizes! If you're a spinner, or you know a spinner who might be interested, please be sure to let me know.

Anne also gave us a mention on her blog, and we got another mention this week, too. Many thanks to katia and kyliemac for giving us a shout out on their podcast in Episode 77!

As for me, I'll be trying to post two or three times a week to let you know when things are added and what's going on around here. It's still early in the game, so help us spread the word! If you belong to a knitting or crocheting circle, tell them about it, or mention it next time you stop by your knitting shop, and tell all your friends! Let's get that participation list stacked up!

C'est parti is pronounced "say par-tee" and is a French expression meaning "Here we go!"

Welcome to Tricot du coeur!

Hi, and thanks for stopping by Tricot du coeur, where we're trying to make the world a little cozier one stitch at at time.

If you're a knitter or crocheter, you already know the joy that comes from making gifts for those you love. But have you ever experienced the warm fuzzies that come with making something for somebody in need? Well, here's your chance!

We're knitting and crocheting blankets for the Victory Junction Gang, a camp that welcomes hundreds of kids with a wide range of illnesses every year. In addition to getting to spend time with other kids who are going through the same things they are or spending a weekend away with their families in a safe and fun environment, every child gets to take home a handmade afghan as a souvenir. And that's where we come in!

Plus, we aim to have a little fun along the way and we've even gathered some really fantastic prizes for a great big drawing after all the blankets are sent in! So check out the links on the right sidebar to learn more about who we're knitting and crocheting for, the prizes that are up for grabs, and how you can participate. Then break out your sticks, hooks and stash and let's have some fun!
