How all this got started
Not too long ago, my sister, who volunteers her time along with our grandmother at the local VFW, asked me if I'd be interested in knitting up a blanket for charity that the VFW was sponsoring. At that point, all I knew was that it was for a children's camp in North Carolina and the blanket wouldn't be due until next April. I immediately said yes, since I figured that even I could manage to make a blanket in seven months!
As more information came my way, I realized what a great organization Victory Junction Gang is, and I wanted to get some more of my knitting friends involved. I told my sister that I was thinking about posting something about the charity on my blog, and my sister laughed and said she hoped I would. What can I tell you, I'm totally predictable.
But then I started to get ambitious. What if I could get a whole bunch of people knitting blankets for these kids? We could have a big drawing at the end, with prizes and everything! I sent out some feelers to artists I admire very much, my friend Carrie Siegel at Two Trick Pony and Alice Merlino at futuregirl crafts. When they responded so enthusiastically, I knew that we might have something big on our hands. And that's how "Tricot du coeur," which means "Knitting from the heart" in French, was born.
As for me, I'll be happy if we can get a few enthusiastic knitters and crocheters working on blankets for these kids. If we can create a little community while we're working on our blankets, more the better! Plus, there will be some amazing prizes given away at the end. Sounds like fun, right?
And if it all goes wrong, it's all my sister's fault. :P
Happy knitting and crocheting!
